Frequently Asked Questions

What if you don’t have the fabric I’m looking for?

As a new business, we are constantly looking to grow our fabric selection and offer customers the things they’re looking for. If there is a particular type of fabric you would like, reach out to us and let us know and we will see if one of our vendors carries it or if we can find another vendor that does! We can’t guarantee we’ll offer it, but if you ask us, we will look into it!

Can I return cut fabric?

No, cut goods are not returnable. Once a fabric or trim is cut, it is expected that you will purchase it.

I don’t know how to sew, but I’d like to learn. What are some resources I can use?

Blue Armadillo Sewing Company wishes to serve as a repository for all kinds of textile-related skills, so we’re happy to help anyone learn to create! If you sign up for our mailing list, you’ll receive a free PDF Sewing Guide for the Absolute Beginner.

We’ll also offer classes at all skill levels in order to help grow the sewing community in Central Texas. Reach out to us with any specific questions and we’re happy to answer or guide you to the right information!

Why don’t you carry polyester fabrics?

The answer to this one is complex. While we know that no business can ever achieve perfection in sustainability, we try to be aware of our products’ effects on the environment.

While it is possible to make polyester fabrics from recycled materials, very few textiles are recycled in practice once they have been worn out. This means that even if plastic bottles are turned into fabric, their use in a garment will ultimately prevent them from being reused again afterwards and end the circularity of their life cycle.

Because of this, we prefer our fabrics to be made of fibers from nature - cotton, wool, linen, and silk. We offer some fabrics that are more sustainable - organic cotton, recycled hemp, etc. - and some that are just natural-fiber basics.

How will I know when you’re offering classes?

Classes will be posted on the website as soon as we are able. Short of checking the website frequently, it would also help to follow our Instagram page @bluearmadillosewingco as we’ll be posting class updates there as well.
